Active Shooter

Most active shooter incidents are over before law enforcement arrives, so the choices that you make in the first 10 minutes are critical for your chances of survival.

In America alone, the FBI estimate an average of 20 incidents will occur every year. With a concerning increase in active shooter incidents around the world, knowing how to respond appropriately and act correctly in these situations is becoming more essential.

The Active Shooter digital learning course has been developed by Atlas Knowledge Group for a specialist global risk consultancy. Atlas is delighted to be able offer this course now to its customers and learners. The course is targeted at employers and individuals living and working in public places such as offices, factories, airports and shopping centres. It has been designed to raise situational awareness, provide guidance on how to identify potential attackers and explain how best to react if an attack occurs.

In 2015 alone there were several active shooter incidents around the world, including:

  • Bamko, Mali, where there were 170 hostages taken and 22 people killed.
  • A beach shooting in Sousse, Tunisia
  • A 4-minute incident in San Bernardino during a staff meeting
  • A series of coordinated attacks throughout Paris, resulting in 130 people killed and 368 injured.

In October 2016, the Department of Homeland Security in the United States started an Active Shooter Preparedness program providing specific guidance and resource materials for both private citizens and law enforcement professionals.

The UK government released Project Griffin in March 2016, a national counterterrorism initiative to protect cities and communities, in response to the increasing threat from terrorism. Active Shooter provides real case studies, witness testimonies and expert practical guidance to highlight the actions you need to take during a hostile event.
